BORNEO WOODEN CHARM

Borneo, Dayak people, Ngadju / 9 cm

Amulets were used by the Dayak people to ward off their enemies, provide protection in war, as well as bring good fortune and health. At times of illness the shaman or "dukun" would sometimes take small chimp of wood from the talisman in order to prepare a cure.
